In the early 90's, there was shop in Detroit called The Hip Hop Shop. It sold merchandise and was a place where local rappers would go to have rap battles. A group made up of seven rappers formed, one of whom was Eminem. After Dr. Dre signed Eminem, he kept his promise to make sure the rest of the group got signed. This group eventually became called D12. When Eminem's friends got signed, he decided to quit the group and go solo. The members of D12 were Bizarre, Proof, Kuniva, Kon Artis, Swift, and Bugz. However, this did not last very long because the rapper, Bugz, was shot and killed during after an argument. This caused Eminem to join D12 again as a substitute for Bugz.
D12's first album after they were signed was called Devil's Night. It was released on June 19, 2001, and it included nineteen songs. The singles from this album were "Purple Pills," "Ain't Nuttin' but Music," and "Fight Music." D12's music was very controversial, so Devil's Night received worse ratings for it. In 2004, D12's second album came out It was called D12 World. D12 World included twenty-one songs and was also controversial. The singles from this album were "My Band" and "How Come." It also got mixed reviews from critics.
On Apri1 11, 2006, the rapper, Proof, was shot and killed after an argument over a game of pool. He was buried on April 19, and D12 mourned for their friend. Proof's death delayed the recording D12's third album, and D12 stopped making music for four years.
Today, D12 is different. The current members of the group are Eminem, Bizarre, Kuniva, Swift, and a member named Fuzz Scoota, who used to be a part of D12 before they were famous. Kon Artis left the group to focus on his solo career. Recently, D12 has made a few mixtapes and one new song on Eminem's album, Shady XV.
